Research Committee
A new systematic review on the effectiveness of the Bobath concept.
As we reported during the webinar conducted by the Research Committee last year (The recording of this webinar is available: Webinar Zoom Recording and PDF PowerPoint LINK) the expected systematic review, registered several months ago in the PROSPERO protocol database, has recently appeared. This time in the title we can read: “Bobath therapy is inferior to task-specific training and not superior to other interventions in improving arm activity and arm strength outcomes after stroke: a systematic review”. A similar group of co-authors who 3 years earlier published a review, also in the Journal of Physiotherapy, dedicated to the lower limb, have now focused on evaluating the effectiveness of the Bobath concept in relation to arm activity outcomes and arm strength outcomes. The Research Commitee and members of Publications Subgroup are currently reviewing the contents in detail to determine our next steps. The review shows us, once again, the great need to prove the efficacy of our concept in well-designed studies, which the Research Committee encourages IBITA members to do. The committee’s upcoming webinar will be devoted to this topic, and a subgroup of research advisors has been established (the remit and composition of which can be read about on our website under the research tab).
We invite all interested members to contact us at [email protected]
If you have any information for the February newsletter please send it to the IBITA Secretary by 15th February.
