2020 March Newsletter

INTERNATIONAL BOBATH INSTRUCTORS TRAINING ASSOCIATION
An international association for adult neurological rehabilitation

Newsletter March 2020
Executive Committee News:
We are thinking of all of our members around the world during these extraordinary times. We appreciate there is unprecedented disruption and uncertainty for everyone, with significant impact on life, health, and all aspects of living. We send each and every one of you our sincere wishes.
IBITA is an extraordinary world community and we are here for each other.Understandably there has been a lot of concern about the COVID -19 virus and its impact on both courses being held around the world and also on our AGM/Congress 2020.
The advice and regulations given by the governments and health departments in your own country, in addition to your health, travel and cancellation insurance must all be considered when you are planning travel and teaching commitments. The EC and our colleagues in Sweden who are planning the Congress / AGM for August are investigating options in case we need to prepare for reduced numbers of members able to attend this event, or if we need to postpone / cancel the Congress. We continue to plan as though we can proceed on the planned dates but we are also minimizing the financial risks to IBITA

IMPORTANT DATES – have been updated for 2020. Please check this page regularly. https://ibita.org/important-dates/  Please remember motions for the AGM need to be submitted by  31st May 2020.

2020 AGM / Congress
The 36th IBITA AGM/Congress is planned to be held in Marstrand (near Gothenburg), Sweden on 26th – 29th August 2020. Taking into account the Covid-19 pandemic, the opening of registration has been delayed until April 12th. We will need to have an idea of members attending by June 26th to establish if we proceed with the planned hotel, or if we utilize alternate plans that the Nordic group have kindly generated to accommodate smaller numbers than we had originally planned. At this time, the registration deadline will need to be before July 10th to inform plans.

Venue and travel information has been posted to the 2020 AGM/Congress webpage  (LINK)  https://ibita.org/2020-agm-congress/

We are looking for a venue for AGM in 2023 and 2024. If any country is interested in hosting the Congress in 2023 or 2024 then please contact me at [email protected].

Education Committee
Basic Course Quality Assurance
Course delivery, content and transparency of the participant experience on an IBITA recognized Basic Bobath Course is fundamental to quality assurance.  All Basic Course participant evaluations should now be being routinely summarized by ALL Basic Course Instructors onto the Basic Course Evaluation Data Collection Excel form at the conclusion of the course and the completed Excel form should be being sent to the country representative to keep for future audit.

Data from one Basic Course should be collated on one Excel form and the Excel form should clearly state the country / the venue / the dates of the course / the number of instructors and instructor candidates teaching the course.
When an IBITA instructor teaches a Basic Course outside their country it is their responsibility to use the participant Basic Course Evaluation form at the conclusion of the course, summarize the data and send back to the Country Representative in the country where they have been teaching.
This data will be subject to regular audit in order to ensure quality control and be used to identify any learning needs of the membership and/or potential suggested core curriculum revisions.
Modifications have been more recently been made to both the Basic Course Evaluation and Excel forms (LINK) to include questions related to the Basic Course Case Report. The forms are available in the Procedural Manual Forms 3.6 Basic Course Evaluation Form or you can click here for the LINK.

ICF Survey
The Education Committee would like to thank the membership for completing the ICF survey. There were 127 responses and these have been summarized in a PowerPoint presentation LINK
The Education Committee would like to remind members of the work carried out by the Research and Educational Committees in conjunction with Hanna Aviv, Lydia Wagenborg and Luca Cesana regarding outcome measures at all three levels of the ICF [body function and structure, activity, participation and quality of life] for persons with Ataxia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury.
Information about relevant measures / scales for the various health conditions including psychometric properties, pertinent references and links to the instrument are available on the IBITA website located in Google Docs-IBITA Documents-Research and Education-Outcome Measures.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is still looking forward to receive member’s nomination. There are several open posts for the elections at the AGM 2020.
We would like to encourage everyone to think about your nomination. You all are very welcome to get in contact with the listed committee members and/or the nominating committee as well. Please don’t hesitate to ask for any information.
We thank you all for your support.
