Verona Research Group
Dear members,
Thank you for your interest in our research proposal, it is exciting to move forward with this project. Many good questions were raised at the meeting, and we are asking all members to send their questions or comments to Kim Brock at [email protected]. We would appreciate it if you could do this by the end of October. This will give you time to discuss the protocol with each other. We will then put together a series of questions for members to answer, so we can adapt and finalise the protocol to allow participation by members in many countries.
With thanks for your support,
Kim Brock, Orit Elion, Agnieszka Śliwka, Camila Torriani-Pasin, Julie Vaughan Graham
Instructor Training Committee
The two IBITA Instructor Candidate Training Modules took place recently in Tokyo, Japan, providing an enriching space for clinical reasoning, practice, and exchange.
In the Advanced Course Instructor Candidate Training Module – Task analysis as a tool for developing advanced clinical reasoning in the Bobath Concept, participants analyzed and practiced functional tasks by breaking them down into components, such as drinking from a glass of water in sitting, dressing and undressing shoes, bed rolling, and uphill and downhill locomotion. Theoretical knowledge about the current use of tasks in clinical practice, and updated theoretical background for Postural Control, Neurophysiology, and Motor Control was also shared, both for assessment and treatment.
In the Basic Course Instructor Candidate Training Module – Understanding the Complexity of Postural Control for the Functional Recovery of the Upper Limb and Hand, theoretical contents of the upper limb section of the Basic Course Core Curriculum were updated. Practical sessions focused on upper limb key areas such as assessing reach and grasp in different postures and directions, addressing the painful shoulder, understanding the relationship between postural control and scapular stability and movement, facilitating reach, grasp, and manipulation, and the therapeutic use of “placing,” among others.
In both modules, participants prepared pre-course work that resulted in theoretical presentations supporting the neurophysiological and biomechanical background of the practical sessions.
For the members of the ITC, these modules were a truly valuable experience, creating a collaborative learning environment and exchanging ideas. We are very grateful for the active participation of all involved.
We would also like we express our gratitude to the organizers in Japan for their hospitality and their availability in coordinating both courses. Their support has been truly appreciated.
