Closure of the Bobath Centre, London
The Bobath Centre, London, which was set up by Berta and Karel Bobath in 1957 for the treatment of adults with neurological conditions and children with cerebral palsy, sadly closed on May 30th. The trustees of the charity had to make the difficult decision to close the centre (currently known as the National Bobath Cerebral Palsy Centre) due to financial difficulties associated with changes in the way independent specialist health services are funded in the UK and the overall economic downturn affecting the ability to raise charitable funds.
The first International Bobath Instructors Training Association meeting was planned and hosted at the Bobath Centre in Netherhall Gardens in 1984. In early years many Bobath instructors visited and had close links with the Centre and think of it as the home of the Bobath Concept, we are sure they will be saddened by the news of its closure.
