Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is continuing with the project of increasing the active participation of its members. This Month we are happy to present you two different positions that will be vacant next year; the Member at large and vacant posts in the Bobath Development committee.
Member At Large
Hi my name is Catherine Cornall, I am in my last term as Member at Large on the IBITA Executive committee so you may be familiar with my face looking out from that top table at the AGM or looking out from your computer screen from our AGM’s on Zoom! When I am not doing that, I hold two posts in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, Ireland. I am a Clinical Specialist in Stroke and Acquired Brain Injury and a member of the Interdisciplinary Quality Care Team focused on improving person centred care and the culture of teamwork in the hospital. I qualified as a BCI in 2002.
My first IBITA Committee experience was on the Nominating Committee back in 2011. I am also like most people busy with a work, home and personal life and felt I didn’t really have the time to do anything else when I was first asked to join the Nominating Committee, however I felt I should at least make some contribution. I ended up completing 2 terms and 4 years as Chair of the committee because I learnt more about and understood more the value and importance of IBITA. I became Member At Large on the Executive Committee in 2018. My role on the Nominating Committee enabled me to get to know more of the
members of IBITA from many countries, my time on the Executive Committee has helped me really appreciate and increase my understanding of IBITA, all the work of the various committees and all the background work that allows our organisation to continue. The Member at Large represents the membership on the E.C. and has a more varied role in completing tasks as required. It is a great post to be in, to gain an insight into the work of the E.C. and to contribute without an additional specific role such as finance or secretary.
The responsibilities of Member at Large are outlined on Page 13 of the Procedural Manual and that certainly describes some of the roles. On a practical level, I respond to emails as they arrive and attend and contribute to the monthly online Zoom meetings of the E.C. I also attend the in person Mid-Year meeting held over a weekend where we spend two days working together and also getting to know each other. The amount of work varies through
the year and of course at the AGM members of the E.C. are a little busier than most people attending!
I have really enjoyed my time in this role, I have got to know the other members of the E.C. from around the world, learnt from them about their varied work experiences and worked alongside them to continue the ongoing operational and development aspects of IBITA.
My experiences of IBITA committee work have both been very positive, I gained more than I gave. I would certainly recommend putting yourself forward for this or any other position, you will
learn so much and your contribution will be respected, valued and appreciated.
Catherine Cornall Member at Large of IBITA.
The Nominating Committee is inviting you to stand for the position of the Member At Large that will be vacant next year. Your inter-relationship and planning skills are needed within the work of the Executive Committee and will be highly valued. Help our association to remain updated to the needs of its members and contribute to plan the future of IBITA
Development Committee
My name is Peter Popelier. I am a Belgian physical therapist with 35 years of experience in neurorehabilitation, and more than 15 years as an IBITA member. My work allows me to have a lot of international contact through the University, IBITA and Handicap International.
The Bobath Development Committee cooperates with the countries that are developing in the field of rehabilitation. We discuss practical issues and support them as much as possible.
New members are welcome to bring in ideas and therefore assist in directing the future.
It is a small commitment; but good education is obtained from passionate teachers who may need financial support from IBITA when teaching in developing countries or to plan
courses there.
Peter Popelier Chairperson of Bobath Development Committee.
Helping IBITA to spread the Bobath Concept in low-income countries will be an exciting opportunity. You can increase your international relationships, also language and negotiating skills.
The Nominating Committee invites you to stand for this position, we are sure that this is an enriching experience of shared knowledge, skills and competences.

Thank you very much for your cooperation!
Education Committee
1. The Education Committee has the responsibility to ensure the quality of the Bobath courses. For that it is necessary to be able to gather the evaluations of different basic courses held around the world. The Basic Course Evaluation Forms submitted by participants of all Basic Courses, are to be routinely summarised on the Basic Course Evaluation Data Collection Sheet.
Is it possible for the county representative to send the summary of the data collection sheets to [email protected]?
2. The Education Committee is in communication with the ITC and Research Committee to plan future webinars. More information will follow. Suggestions for themes are always welcome at [email protected]
